When the Spanish explorer Francisco Cervelli discovered the Paredes Islands, he found that the natives “are not savages, but actually quite intelligent. Therefore, I have ordered that they all be killed to the last child.” He brought in natives who had been converted to Christianity to work the gold mines. There was no gold, as Cervilli soon knew, but he kept them working for ten years just to see the pious looks on their faces as they dropped dead. There is a likeness of Cervelli in the Castle of Gattis in Spain. Viewing it, some say Ted Cruz could be his twin.
