A poem for the new year

photo-24Canvas (New Year’s Eve)

You’ve lost your rear wheels
decades ago
on the long road from Hong Kong
driving all these decades
toward another midnight
searching for promise
amid the prayer wheels
spinning the illusion of a breeze
a direction and destination
an end to the war
to begin all wars
A child only needs a hand
to propel a canvas-covered truck
speeding across the face of the world
