Wednesday, October 21, 2015…
I hadn’t seen the movie in years, had completely forgotten the year they traveled to. It’d seemed such a far future worthy of flying cars. So I was startled when news reports mentioned that this day and year were destination date for 1989’s Back to the Future II. When I saw the film 26 years ago, I didn’t picture myself in that far-future date, didn’t calculate that I’d be 61, didn’t wonder about my place in it. Sixty-one seemed so old, I probably didn’t think I’d have much of a future left. I never imaged I’d feel still young and old at the same time. I would not have believed I’d still be working to find my place in the world.
Wednesday, October 21, 2015 didn’t take me to the future but back to the past that suddenly seemed as close as as the clothes I was wearing. I feel like a time traveler from 1989, not in awe of these times but of the journey. It’s been quite a crossing, between centuries, genders and so much more.
